The last bell of Bellerose Hollow

Reverend Amos Pruitt rode into Bellerose Hollow in the spring of 1888 to fill a pulpit nobody wanted. He found a congregation of nine, a fieldstone mound behind the church that no one would walk across, and a cracked bell that had to be rung at dusk and again at first light. Never a service. Just the ringing.
Told in his own letters, in the order they were found — which is not the order he wrote them.
